Abstract

The main concern of this study was to determine the profitabilityof theincome-generating projects (IGP) undertaken by the Technology andHomeEconomics students in vocational schools in the Province of Samar. It alsoaimed to come up with ways and means of improving the management of theIGP to make them more profitable. This study covered the school year 1995-1996. This study employed the normative-descriptive research methodusingthe questionnaire as the main instrument in gathering data. For the findingsof the study, the teacher and student respondents had more or lessencountered the same problems in the implementation of IGP intheirrespective schools. The most highly felt problems of those groups were on: “inadequate tools and equipment for production of projects”, with weightedmean of 3.78, “poor management encountered due to constant reshuffling of IGP in-charge” and “channelling of IGP cash income to other projects of theschools” with a weighted mean of 3.56 and 3.84, respectively. The threegroups of respondents were undecided as to the correct solutions of theproblems met in the implementation of the IGP. For the conclusion, theeffective implementation of the income generating project is hamperedbylack of essential tools and equipment. There is a need to come up withproperrecords to be able to show whether the projects are profitable or not. For therecommendation, the school administration and teachers should workhandin hand to come up with successful and profitable projects to motivate andconvince students on the importance of self-employment.
